WASHINGTON, DC — “While we are relieved that the government has reopened and critical services are being restored, this record-length shutdown came at a steep cost. Millions of Americans were deprived of their paychecks, and basic human needs hung in the balance—all while our elected leaders continued to get paid, but failed to secure long-term solutions that support working families and strengthen our democracy. The crisis is far from over—the deal that ended the
shutdown has left Americans vulnerable as they face immediate uncertainty about their health care coverage.
The American people deserve a government that works for them, not one held hostage by partisan gridlock. Democracy depends on trust. Trust that our elected leaders will govern responsibly and prioritize the needs of the people first.
As we look toward the new year, we demand Congress and the administration to work together in good faith to ensure that our government remains open, accountable, and focused on delivering critical support for the people it serves.”
